A man who spiked treats with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on late November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in recently.
The prosecutor added: "This year his stepson had concerns about the activities, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his family member alerted the police about his worries.
She stated Ruben proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.
She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
